Talent Q offers two personality tests: the Dimensions test which is timed at 25 minutes and the Aspects Styles test which is timed at 8 minutes. The two tests are similar in format, but have different objectives. Below we discuss the similarities and differences between these tests and how you can prepare yourself beforehand.

Format of the Talent Q Questionnaire

Both of the Talent Q personality tests are only available for computer use; you will not receive a paper copy. The items are presented in groups of four statements, preceded by the question: “How true is each statement about you in relation to your behaviour at work?” You are required to rate each of the statements on a scale of 1 to 5, between “very true” and “completely untrue”.

Ratings

You are also required to give each statement a different rating. If you’ve replied to two statements with the same rating, a question will appear asking you to rate one of them as “truest” and the other as “least true”. You are asked to reply to statements with similar ratings using the arrows on their right. The system will remind you of how you rated the statements, as in this example: “fairly true”.

Be careful! You are to rate the statements in relation to the question about your behaviour in the workplace. In your replies, try to avoid answering about your life in general, and concentrate only on your relation to work. Therefore, use judgement when you answer and try to focus on the desired behaviour in the company to which you are applying.

Important! Once you have moved on to the next block of statements, you cannot go back. Therefore, take your time and answer carefully. There is no time limit for this test. It takes an average of 25 minutes to complete the long version and 8 minutes to fill in the short version.

Talent Q Dimensions

The questionnaire provides your employer with extensive knowledge about you. The results will not only dictate whether or not you are hired but will also determine if you are capable of leadership skills, and detail how you function in a team, your compatibility with the organization’s culture and environment, your level of sales skills and other dimensions.

Therefore, please do not take this questionnaire lightly, because its results will follow you for as long as you are employed in the company. They will determine, to a great extent, the nature of your roles and your advancement in the company.

The questionnaire is theoretically based on three dimensions, each with 5 qualities, for a total of 15 measured characteristics:

Compatibility with the Role

In many evaluation and assessment centres you are often told to “just be yourself” before taking personality tests. However, this specific test is different. The employer has established the required qualities for the position in advance, and they define the range of responses which provide an entry filter for being accepted or moving to the next stage. If your results are not within the set range, you will not get the job. Therefore, it is important to be prepared, think about the characteristics required for this role, and show strength on those in your replies.

In order to prepare for the personality test, we recommend using our personality testing kit so that you can better understand the measured qualities and characteristics and which of those your employer might look for. In addition, you can complete a sample personality test and see which qualities stand out in your results.

What does your employer learn about you?

As we mentioned earlier, the employer will gain vast knowledge about you from this test since twelve reports are provided about you. The information supplied to the employer not only answers the question “is the applicant suited to the position?” but also shows the candidate’s capacity for development and progression and many other aspects that are of interest to the employer.

The information produced in the results includes:

  • Detailed results of your personality traits
  • Qualities to focus on in the interview
  • Leadership and development potential
  • How you function in a team
  • Style of work
  • Compatibility with the organization’s culture and environment
  • Sales skills
  • Factors that can hinder promotions

As you can see, the employer receives quite a lot of information about you. Therefore, you should fill in the questionnaire accordingly. When you answer the questions, don’t think about the job you are currently applying for, but about your entire career with this company – whether you want to develop your skills, become a manager or a leader, or create opportunities for other roles in the company.

Talent Q Aspects Styles

This is the short version of the dimension test and it lasts only 8 minutes. This test is designed for positions that involve direct encounters with customers or other service receivers, such as: customer support, hotel staff, emergency teams, operators, etc.

Usually, this test is only one of a few including: Quantitative reasoning, verbal thinking, and speed and accuracy tests. Completing these tests usually takes slightly more than 30 minutes.
If you are interested in being as prepared as possible for these tests, you can purchase our personal test kit for the Talent Q Aspects tests.

This specific questionnaire measures characteristics which have been defined by the employer as the most necessary ones for the position, out of 16 different characteristics. Since the questionnaire is intended for use in mass recruiting with the goal of saving time, usually no more than 6 characteristics will be measured. In light of your scores on these characteristics, your compatibility score is calculated between 0-100.

Talent Q Aspects Skills

In addition to the compatibility score, the questionnaire also supplies the employer with guidelines for the interview based on the results for your characteristics. It is recommended to be prepared for questions about the characteristics that appeared on your personality test.

Tips for filling in the questionnaire

  1. Both tests are adapted to the specific position you are applying for. Before you answer, remember to think about the characteristics required for this role. It is recommended to use our preparation kit for personality tests so that you can try to learn about and understand the characteristics and how your answers reflect on you.
  2. The results of the test will determine not only if you are hired for the job but also your future roles in the company. Clear your schedule and pick a convenient time to fill in the questionnaire because when you have answered a question you cannot go back to it.
  3. Remember! The test relates to your behaviour in the workplace and not in your everyday life. In your replies, try to avoid answers about your life in general, use judgement and don’t be instinctive, and be sure to focus on the desired behaviour in the position for which you are applying.

Good luck!
