CEB SHL-Style Numerical Reasoning Online Test

In this test, you will encounter numerical data in the form of a table or a graph, followed by multiple-choice questions relating to them. Answering the questions often requires you to show basic math aptitude and to perform calculations involving fractions, percentages, ratios, and conversions.

CEB SHL-Style Verbal Reasoning Online Test

For the CEB SHL verbal test, you will read short passages of text and answer questions relating to each passage. Each question will require you to quickly evaluate whether a statement is true, false, or indeterminable based on the text.

Practice for the Old Mutual Tests

JobTestPrep has composed practice materials containing tests similar to those you will be required to take during your pre-employment assessment for the SHL. Our tests may differ in certain details from those you will meet on your exam, but they are carefully designed to hone those cognitive abilities and professional skills that are measured in job applicants for the SHL. We will also familiarize you with the expected test's format and the types of questions it contains. If you practice with our carefully comprised preparation pack, you will achieve higher results on your pre-employment assessment and shoot ahead of other applicants for the SHL.

Old Mutual Recruitment Process

To successfully receive an offer from Old Mutual, you must pass all stages of Old Mutual's hiring process. After making sure your CV clearly demonstrates your relevance to your desired position, you should submit your application. This will start the application process. Next, a recruiter will contact you and invite you to a face-to-face competency-based interview. If you pass, you will then be asked to participate in further interviews and to complete aptitude tests. Each of the hiring process stages is explained in more detail below.

Old Mutual Application Process

Together with submitting your resume and cover letter, you will be asked to complete a short questionnaire, when you apply for the position. The questionnaire seeks to collect some demographic information about job applicants. You will also encounter in it questions about your working visa status, education, working history, and disability, among others. You will need to provide personal contact details as well. If your documents satisfy the expectations of the company's recruiters, you will be invited for a phone interview, in which a Human Resources manager will tell you about the SHL for which you applied.

Old Mutual Phone Interview

If you are successful during the online testing stage, your next assessment is the Old Mutual telephone interview. This interview is scheduled to last between 30 minutes and one hour. The Old Mutual phone interview is mainly competency-based and focuses on assessing you against the key competencies valued at the company. You will be asked about your background and then the interview will move onto the competency questions.

Old Mutual Assessment Centre

The assessment centre, which takes place on site, includes groups of candidates and may take a couple of hours or days to complete. The exercises are divided into different sections, which are designed to assess how you work both in teams and individually. In the first section, the group will be assigned a business case which they must work together to solve. In the second section, you will solve a business case individually. During the last stage, you will be invited to a competency-based interview.

Frequently Asked Questions by Old Mutual Applicants

How Are Old Mutual SHL Tests Scored?

Old Mutual aptitude tests are usually comprised of multiple-choice questions. The possible marks for each question are correct, incorrect, and unanswered. When you submit an Old Mutual aptitude test, your answers are first measured against the correct answers. Then, your correct answers are counted, and the rate of correct answers is calculated.

What is the Old Mutual Telephone Interview?

This is often a preliminary interview. These questions are essentially competency questions, and the interviewers are looking for you to provide examples of where you have displayed these competencies in the past. The STAR method will help you organise your answers. See JobTestPrep's STAR method pages: to find out more about how to answer in this way. The telephone interview has some advantages over a regular interview - you can wear comfortable clothing, and keep your answers written out in front of you, but it can also contain the same pressure as an interview when it comes to answering questions.

Why should I Prepare for the Old Mutual Tests?

Practice, practice, and more practice. Understanding the nature of the test you are facing is very important. We recommend ensuring that you get the answers right before trying to improve your speed.

How Long does Old Mutual Hiring Process Take?

The hiring process for your dream career depends on the number of tasks you have to fulfil. Typically, there are hundreds, if not thousands of candidates are applying for the same job. Whilst most of them are filtered out through the use of online tests, that still leaves many who have to go through face to face assessments and interviews. We can make some generalisations though. Online tests and automatic application screening typically take no more than a week. However, you will only know if you have got through to the next stage of the application process once the job posting has been closed. The company will normally take a further month to come up with a shortlist of candidates who should attend interviews and assessment centres. These assessment centres usually take place in the first three months of the year and you get the results typically about a week or two afterwards. We can, therefore, say that the entire process can take up to six months.
