AON Numerical Reasoning Test Practice

In 2017, the large assessment company AON has purchased cut-e. Ever since, the AON/cut-e test names are interchangeable. The cut-e scales numerical, also known as AON Numerical Reasoning Test, is one of the cut-e assessments, often taken together with other Aon ability tests, such as the Verbal Reasoning Aptitude test and the Discover rules test (scales-ix), and personality tests, such as ADEPT-15.

The test consists of 37 tasks to complete in 12 minutes, while a shorter version of the test consists of 18 tasks to complete in 6 minutes.

The test requires extensive numerical knowledge and the ability to perform complicated arithmetic in little time.

A special challenge of the scales numerical test is that you may choose the correct answer and still lose points, as the test has several unique factors and pitfalls. Moreover, the test comes in 3 versions - consumer, finance, and industrial. Therefore, to receive a high score, it is imperative to be acquainted with it and know what to look for beforehand.

What is the AON cut-e Numerical Reasoning Test?

The cut-e Numerical Ability Test is an aptitude assessment taken as part of the hiring process for a wide range of positions to evaluate your numerical aptitude and various aspects of your arithmetic abilities.  

The focus of this page is the scales numerical (AON Numerical Reasoning). A less common numerical test is the scales eql (AON Basic Numerical Comprehension). Read more about the scales eql.

The scales numerical assessment is the more common type of cut-e numerical test.  

This test assesses your aptitude to understand, analyze, and evaluate data from charts, diagrams, and tables.  

The test consists of 37 tasks to complete in 12 minutes 

A shorter form of the test consists of 18 tasks to complete in 6 minutes 

The test comes in three versions, depending on the industry and the role you applied for – consumer, finance, and industrial. The difference between these versions is not in the level of difficulty or mathematical ability but subject matter only. 

In each task, you will be presented with a statement. You need to determine whether it is true, false, or cannot say according to provided information. To answer the question, you need to perform mathematical calculations, such as percentages, ratios, currency conversion, fractions, and trends.

At the top of your screen are several tabs; each has a chart, table or diagram that displays data regarding different aspects of the task, such as revenue, expenses, and stock.

To reach a conclusion, you are required not only to interpret the numerical information correctly but also to comprehend which tab holds the relevant data to the statement, which can be pretty challenging under time pressure.

Finding the relevant tab for this question may be more difficult than usual. The subject of the statement is laptops and tablets. More specifically, it refers to their relative part out of the total products sold by Arclight. Since this is still very little information to go on, our only choice is to scan through the tabs one by one.

Two tabs contain sales data ("Hard drives" and "Sales"). However, since they neither contain the total number of company products sold, nor refer to laptops and tablets specifically, these are definitely not the correct tabs. "Proceeds" is the only tab which contains information regarding laptops and tablets, and is therefore the correct tab. Nevertheless, it estimates the relative contribution of different products to the company's proceeds, not the number of products sold. Therefore, we do not have the information required to determine whether this statement is true or false.

Note: Tablets and laptops are estimated to contribute 9%+11% = 20% of the proceeds. Had we missed the fact that the statement is not about the proceeds, we might have mistakenly answered True. Always make sure you read the statement carefully and know exactly what you are looking for.

According to the Revenues tab, costs in year 4 and year 6 were 20050 and 29870, respectively. The combined costs for year 4 and year 6 is 20050 + 29870 = 49920. The costs in year 5 was only 47607 which is less than 49920.

Therefore, the correct answer is False.

What Does the AON cut-e scales Numerical Test Assess?

The cut-e scales numerical assessment evaluates your ability to analyze data out of diagrams and tables as well as to perform arithmetic calculations data in a very short and limited time.  

The test is used as part of the screening process for management positions in many companies and organizations, including Credit Suisse, UBS, Rolls Royce, and pwc.

The scales eql is the lesser common type of cut-e numerical test.

This test assesses your basic numerical comprehension and ability to use your mental calculation to solve arithmetic functions, evolving additions, subtraction, and multiplication.

The test consists of 15 questions to complete in 5 minutes.

You will be presented with an equation with missing parts. You need to complete the equation by choosing numbers from 1 to 9, so the given result is correct.

Keep notice, each number can only be used once.

Applying BODMAS rules, we should start with multiplication. The quotient of the first two digits has to be lower than 14, as we will need to add more digits later. 

In determining the most prudent digits to use for these positions, we can take advantage of the unique properties of the number 1, enabling us to twin it with a high number. For example, we can choose 9, and divide it by 1 to arrive at 9 - a number close enough to our predefined result that simple addition can get us to it. 

9 + x + y = 14

Next, we will use inverse operations on both sides of the equation to simplify it:

x + y = 5.

All that remains is to find an appropriate combination for X and Y. One possible combination is: (3, 2).

Therefore, a possible solution is: (9, 1, 3, 2)

Other possible solutions: (8, 4, 9, 3), (5, 1, 6, 3).

Facing a question with more than one operator, we should start with the mathematical operation that is precedent according to the order of operations.

In this case, all the operations have the same precedence: multiplication and division. As their order is insignificant, where we start is up to us. 

Let's start with division.

One possible approach is to replace the empty space to the right of the division sign with the digit 1. 

X * Y : 1 = 8

By taking advantage of the number 1's properties, we now require only an appropriate combination for X and Y. A possible Solution is: (2, 4).

Therefore, a possible solution is: (2, 4, 1).

Another possible solution is: (4, 6, 3).
