Optus’s Hiring Process

The recruitment process involves several interviews with different heads of departments as well as several tests. Judging by the requirements they post on their job applications, they primarily look for people with the following skills:

  • Strong work ethic, motivation and willingness to learn
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills

Optus Interview Stages

To some, the interview process at Optus may prove long and difficult, while to others it may prove easy and short. The reason for this is that different job positions require different skills, and to test these skills, interviewers implement different techniques which include:

  • An initial phone interview. During a phone interview, candidates will usually be interview by a recruiter. The candidate will be asked a number of basic questions about the readiness to work, the salary requirements, experience, some clarifying questions about the resume etc. If the interview is successful, the candidate will be asked to come in for a face-to-face interview on company premises.
  • Video interviews. Video interviews are divided into two types live and pre-recorded. A live video interview involves using Skype, or a similar program. It’s as simple as that. It can take 40-60 minutes to complete. A pre-recorded interview is where are given a set of questions which you have to answer while recording yourself. You then send this video to the interviewers.
  • Several levels of in-person interviews. If the initial phone interview is successful, you will be invited by Optus to participate in one or more face-to-face (in-person) interviews with a member of the management team, a mix of managers, HR representatives, and potential co-workers.
  • You may have to participate in case interviews. A case interview is a job interview in which the applicant is presented with a challenging business scenario that he/she must investigate and propose a solution to. The interviewers will be looking at how analytical and creative your thinking is.

Tests Conducted by Optus

There are several tests that you may have to pass, some will assess your general skills, while others will assess very specific skills that are required for the job you are applying for. These include:

  • The Revelian Test which is a 51-question, 20-minute exam that consists of three types of questions: verbal, numerical, and logical/abstract reasoning. The questions on the test increase in difficulty as the test taker progresses. There is a broad range of question types and difficulty levels, meaning that this test is used to assess applicants for a wide variety of positions.
  • English tests. These tests aim to assess both written and spoken English. They are covering a number of topics such as Vocabulary, Grammar, Spelling and more.
