Preparing for The Hiring Process at Newsec

The hiring process can take 5 weeks and will consist of three face-to-face interviews and a number of tests. Some tests are general, while others are specific to the job you are applying for. The general required skills, as advertised by the company, are as follows:

  • Ability to work and communicate effectively as a part of a team
  • Knowledge of computer applications.
  • Attention to detail with excellent time management skills

Newsec Interview Stages

The hiring process at Newsec requires you to participate in several interviews. These include:

  • Phone interviews. A phone interview, which will be conducted via phone and can take between 15-30 minutes. You will go over your resume and be asked questions regarding your salary expectations, work history, availability etc. If you successfully pass this interview, you will be either invited to participate in a video interview or an initial face to face interview.
  • A video interview. Video interviews are divided into two types live and pre-recorded. The live video interview involves the use of Skype or a similar program. It will be like an in-person interview with more detailed questioning. A live video interview can be as long as one hour. A pre-recorded video interview involves employers sending you a link to an interview platform which contains pre-determined interview questions. Here, you will have a chance to briefly view the question before you record and submit your answer.
  • Multiple levels of in-person interviews. Face-to-face (or in-person) interviews. During the face-to-face interviews, you will be interviewed by multiple people. These will include the HR, the head of the department and your direct superior.
  • Panel interviews. involve a candidate sitting across from three or more hiring managers and meeting with them all at once in a 45- to 60-minute interview. Each of the hiring managers will ask the candidate a series of questions.

Preparing for Newsec’s Tests

The testing system at Newsec employs the cut-e system and includes the following:

  • The Numerical Reasoning Test: This test assesses numerical abilities as well as the ability to find your way through a relatively large amount of data in a short period of time. There are six sheets with numerical data represented in graphs and tables. Each question refers to one of the charts and presents a statement based on the information in that chart. The task is to find the relevant chart and determine whether the statement is true or false based on the information, or perhaps there is not enough data to decide either way. The test includes 37 questions which need to be answered within 12 minutes.
  • The Verbal Reasoning Test: this test measures understanding and analysis of complex verbal information. Most verbal reasoning tests present one long passage at a time, whereas in this test you are required to handle multiple shorter passages simultaneously. Each passage is displayed in a separate sheet so that only one passage is visible at a given moment. The questions are statements you need to evaluate based on the relevant passage. A statement can be true, false, or the provided information is insufficient to arrive at a firm conclusion. There are 12 minutes to evaluate 49 statements in total, so time is another important factor.

Traditional Interview Questions

Some of the most common interview questions that are asked at Newsec are:

  • What was it like working with your supervisor?
  • What is your style of applying a corrective action?
  • What have you learned from your mistakes?
