The Hiring Process at Janssen

The hiring process, which could take 4 weeks, requires you to take some tests, prior to coming to the interviews. These are usually online assessments which focus on testing your basic skills like language, typing, and communication, as well as some basic math. If you look closely at their job applications, you will see that there are a number of skills that all candidates are required to have, and these are:

  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Leadership and supervisory capabilities

Janssen Interview Expectations

While Janssen is one company, it has a presence in several locations. This and the type of job you are applying for have a heavy influence on the type and number of interviews you will have to go through. You may be required to participate in several of the following interviews:

  • A phone interview. In a phone interview, which could last between 20-30 minutes, the interviewer will ask questions about your qualifications, salary requirements, availability to work etc. If the outcome is successful, or rather, to the satisfaction of the interviewer, you will be invited to a face-to-face interview.
  • Multiple levels of in-person interviews. If the phone interview was successful, you will be invited to a series of face-to-face (or in-person) interviews. These will be done with multiple people like the HR representative, your direct superior and the hiring manager.
  • A panel interview. A panel interview is where you will be questioned simultaneously by multiple interviewers. Each of them will ask you questions and you will have to answer. There is a lot of pressure on candidates in these types of interviews. A panel interview can be an hour long.
  • Group interviews. A group interview is similar to a panel interview, but there is more than one candidate, between 10-40. These last about an hour. Each candidate will be asked a question by each interviewer. Sometimes, candidates will be required to present or solve something together.

Janssen’s Tests and Assessments

These tests are provided by CEB’s SHL Talent Measurement. The number, type, and level of tests you will need to take depend on the role for which you are applying. These tests include:

  • CEB SHL Numerical Test: On the test, you are presented with different numerical data items in the form of graphs and tables. After careful analysis of the figures, you need to answer multiple choice questions relating to the data.
  • CEB SHL Verbal Reasoning Test: This test is designed to assess how well you use written information. You will be presented with a paragraph of text and a statement based on that text. You need to come to a conclusion as to whether this statement is true, false, or impossible to say based on the text presented.
  • CEB SHL Logical Reasoning Test: On this test, you are presented with a series of shapes following some pattern. Your task is to identify this pattern and choose the next shape in the sequence from a list of options.
  • Personality Test: The purpose of the SHL personality test is to assess how well you fit with Janssen values.
  • Situational Judgement Test: On this assessment, you are presented with a number of different work-based scenarios and a series of potential responses to those situations. You must choose the responses you find most and least effective.
