Arup Revelian-Style Cognitive Ability Test

The Revelian Cognitive Ability Test (formerly Onetest), also known as the RCAT, is a 51-question, 20-minute exam that consists of three types of questions: verbal, numerical, and logical/abstract reasoning. The questions on the test increase in difficulty as the test taker progresses. There is a broad range of question types and difficulty levels, meaning that this test is used to assess applicants for a wide variety of positions. Please bear in mind that this product refers to the Cognitive Ability Test, not Revelian's game-based test and cognify series.

Arup Verbal Reasoning Test

Verbal reasoning psychometric tests are among the most common tests applicants face when applying for a new job. Verbal reasoning is the name given to a range of tests that use written texts to measure your ability to understand, analyse, and interpret information.

Arup Situational Judgement Test

The Arup Situational Judgement Test or SJT is used as a means to gauge your ability to approach real-life work conflicts and scenarios accordingly. You will be tasked with choosing the most and least effective responses, or to rank them in order based on their effectiveness. The Arup SJT will assess a number of invaluable workplace skills. This test is usually comprised of 100 or more questions which measure 32 specific traits.

Arup Personality Test

As you begin planning your Arup personality test, take some time to ponder the following questions:

  • Is the company suitable for you?
  • Is the position suitable for you?
  • Is this a position you truly want?

The personality test will provide your potential future employer with insights into how you work in groups, comply with rules, cope with stress and pressure, as well as your ability to solve problems and manage others in an effective manner. There is no right or wrong answer, however, your answers will indicate your levels of suitability for the position.

Arup Numerical Test

A wide range of administrative, graduate, managerial and sales positions require applicants to pass a number-based assessment, known as the numerical reasoning tests. It is therefore important for applicants to brush up on skills from basic mathematics to high-level numerical critical reasoning, as the numerical tests will usually play a decisive factor in the recruitment process.

Arup Interview Policy

Arup will most likely begin with a screening interview phone call. After seeing that your resume fits the bill, a representative will call you to ask a series of brief background and technical questions to further weed out unwanted candidates. The next stage will usually entail a sit-down face to face interview where you will be asked more in-depth questions on subjects not covered during the initial phone screening or written application. Be ready for curve ball questions and open-ended question that provide your interviewer with more background info. Feel free to ask your own follow up questions to gain clarity and better focus your remarks.

Arup Assessment Centre Proceedings

Assessment Centres have lately gained popularity in many countries as a more efficient way to select new employees. Many companies have come to believe that job candidates do not show their true personalities and professional qualities on tests and during interviews. More fully their professionalism is revealed in the Assessment Centre, where they are required to participate in numerous activities. Job candidates spend a day or even two days participating in group discussions, playing roles according to pre-given scenarios, making short presentations on different topics related to their jobs, engaging in social events and case studies. There is also testing in the Assessment Centre. Applicants take personality tests and various assessments evaluating their analytical skills, reading and numerical comprehension, and decision making, among other skills. Job events organized in the Assessment Centre are highly intense and may be stressful. Unsuccessful candidates are sent home after each stage of evaluation. Only few prospective employees are invited to have a conversation with a company’s high managers and become employed.

Frequently Asked Questions – What You Need to Know

How are Verbal Tests Evaluated?

There is no passing score on the verbal test. But this does not mean that you cannot fail the test. Whether you have done well on your verbal tests is determined relative to the results of other job candidates vying for a similar position or employees who already work in similar roles. Evaluating your test scores relative to other employees allows companies to hire people with the best results. This method of scoring your verbal test maybe disadvantageous, even if you receive a good mark on it. Even if on your pre-employment assessment, you correctly answer, say, 27 questions out of 30, your results may still be considered poor compared to scores of other applicants. If the majority of your competitors get 29 questions right, you will not pass your test and will not be invited for a face-to-face interview. Because your results on the Verbal Test so obviously depend on other people’s comparative intellectual inferiority to you, practicing for it is crucial. You need not only to score high but also leave others behind to excel on your verbal test and be invited for the interview.

What Is the Purpose of the Arup Personality Test?

The Arup personality test is used to measure and understand your workplace persona. These tests will give insight into your ability to learn new information, adapt to changes, as well as cooperate with your co-workers. There are technically no right or wrong answers to these tests, however, certain answers can make or break your ability to obtain the job you are after due to their effect on your overall personality profile.

What Is the Main Point of the Situational Judgement Test?

Arup administers an Situational Judgement Test to job applicants in order to assess critical thinking, decision making and judgement calls. Your future employer wants to understand what makes you tick and how your behavioural traits will add or subtract from the office environment. During the test you will be faced with various office conflict scenarios and asked which course of action would best relieve the conflict. Answers can range from a single answer to multi-layer solution presented in a multiple-choice format.

What are the Arup Numerical Tests Designed to Measure?

Depending on the job and profession you are seeking, you may encounter a pre-hire math test, also known as a numerical reasoning test, a quantitative reasoning test, or a numerical test. This is the most common type of aptitude test applicants can face. Test takers are assessed on their ability to understand and make decisions based on numerical data. The exam may be administered as part of an online job application, at the job site, or during an interview. However, it's important to note that there are no standard pre-employment math tests.
