The Hiring Process at H&M

Going through the hiring process could be difficult. H&M requires you to go through a number of cut-e tests and several interviews. These are not always the same to all candidates and heavily depend on the applied job. However, there are certain skills that all the candidates must have, including:

  • Proficiency with MS Office Applications
  • Strong planning, prioritisation and origination skills
  • Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills

The Interviews at H&M

To some, the interview process may prove long and difficult, while to others it may prove easy and short. The reason for this is that different job positions require different skills. To test these skills, interviewers implement different techniques which include:

  • A phone interview, in which you will tell about yourself and go over your resume. The questions are primarily there to assess your personality. These could take 30 minutes, sometimes more.
  • A series of face-to-face interviews with multiple people. These are usually done gradually with an HR representative, your direct supervisor and another person in a managerial position.
  • Lastly, you may have to take part in a group interview. These vary from company to company. The general idea is to interview multiple people (sometimes 10, sometimes 40) simultaneously. There are several interviewers and each of them asks several questions from each of the candidates. This is done to see how candidates do in a stressful situation. These interviews can last up to an hour.

The cut-e Tests at H&M

There are several tests that you may have to pass, some will assess your general skills, while others will assess very specific skills that are required for the job you are applying for. These include:

Numeracy test
This test is used to measures your analysis and evaluation skills of complex numerical information. During this test, you will be presented with equations containing empty spaces, a predefined result and operators. Your goal will be to find a combination of digits to replace the empty spaces in a quick and efficient manner, to make the equation correct. Keep in mind that each digit can only be used once, and you will be given 5 minutes to answer a total of 15 questions.

Situational Judgment Exercise Business
This assessment is used to evaluate your judgment capabilities in workplace scenarios. During this assessment, you will be provided with a series of messages from co-workers, team members, managers and others in the workplace. The goal of this task is to respond to these messages in the correct manner, to display your positive behavioural traits and professional work aptitude. You will be given a time limit of 20 minutes to complete this task.

Scales cls/Inductive Logical Thinking
This test is used to assess your inductive reasoning skills and ability to discover prevalent rules. During this test, you will be shown task screens containing six tables which are split up into two groups. The tables all include numbers and letters which follow a pattern or set of rules. Below the task screen you will find four more tables also containing numbers and letters. The goal of this test is to choose which group each table belongs to. This test may take 5–15 minutes to answer all of the given questions.

Scales ix/Inductive Logical Thinking
This test is also conducted to measure your inductive reasoning capability and knack for finding underlying rules. During this exam, you will be shown a row of 9 different objects which abide by the same rule, with the exception of one object. Your goal in this test is to find and select the specific object which does not conform to this rule. This exam consists of 20 questions and has a time limit of 5 minutes for the entire test overall (15 seconds per question).

Scales lst/Deductive Logical Thinking
This test is given to evaluate your deductive reasoning skills and ability to draw logical conclusions from the given data. During this assessment, you will be presented with several questions, each one containing a 4x4/5x5 square filled with shapes. This test is similar to that of the game Sudoku, in which every shape can only appear one time in each row and column of the square. The goal of this exam is to pick the correct shape that belongs in place of a question mark placed in one of the boxes. A time limit of 6 minutes will be given to complete this test.
