EIB Test Info

If EIB sees potential from your online application, you will be placed on a shortlist of applicants invited to proceed to the next stage.

This involves completing a personality test, plus either Aon's two reasoning and two logical tests or SHL's two reasoning tests. On the company website, the EIB HR team specifically recommends that applicants practise these types of assessments before starting the tests.

For some roles, the application process also includes a case study. These tests determine whether you have the knowledge, skills, and personality to join EIB. To help put your best foot forward, make sure you know what to expect from these tests by preparing beforehand.

Let's dive into each of the EIB assessment tests:

EIB Aon Assessment

EIB Aon Numerical Reasoning Test

The Aon Numerical test assesses your ability to understand, analyze and interpret information presented in tables and graphs. You will be requested to determine if a statement is true, false, or undeterminable by looking for the information in the correct tab.

The test has 37 questions, 12 minutes- you have 20 seconds for each question.

EIB Aon Verbal Reasoning Test

The Aon verbal test measures your ability to understand texts and to analyze and interpret the information therein. By choosing the correct tab and finding the relevant information, you must determine if a statement is true, false, or indeterminable.

The test includes 49 questions, 12 minutes- you have 15 seconds per question.

EIB Aon Logical Reasoning Test

The first Aon deductive test, called 'Scales lst' or GapChallange, measures your ability to use logical reasoning. You will see a grid with a few symbols, one of which you must choose (marked by "?"). Each symbol may only appear once in each row (horizontal) and column (vertical).
The test has 15 questions, 6 minutes - you have 24 seconds to answer each question.

The second Aon deductive test, called 'Scales sx' or SwitchChallenge, measures your ability to recognise patterns and apply them to solve problems. You will see two or three rows of symbols change from one another, requiring identification of the correct operator to transform the upper row to match the lower row.

You have 6 minutes to answer as many questions as possible.

The Aon inductive test, called 'Scales CLX', measures your ability to recognize rules in complex structures. You will see two grids with symbols linked by a common rule. You need to recognize the common rule and choose two additional grids that follow it.

You have 6 minutes to answer as many questions as possible.

European Investment Bank Case Study, Assessment Centre and Interview

EIB Case Study Assessment

Some applicants are asked to take a case study as a way of testing your knowledge of job-related tasks. The EIB case study material will be related to the specific job position that you are applying for. For example, applicants for IT positions may receive a case study focused on tech-based materials.

The most difficult element of this assessment is working through a mass of material in a limited amount of time. Our case study practice pack can help you plan how to best manage your time during the assessment.

EIB Assessment Centre

Applicants who are invited to take part in the EIB assessment centre will be required to take several assessment tests and a programme of interviews. The EIB assessment centre is used to measure the behavioural and managerial skills of candidates using a variety of assessment techniques and the EIB competency framework.

EIB Interview

The final stage of the EIB recruitment process is the interview. The purpose of the interview is not simply to test your knowledge of investment banking but also to determine if you have developed the right skills to handle the job.

As a company, EIB is searching for candidates with the following key attributes: numeracy, decision-making, leadership, verbal communication, motivation, and time management.

When preparing for the interview, note any real-life examples in which you have displayed these attributes. For example, you may be asked to describe an issue with a colleague and explain how you handled the issue and what your motivations were.

EIB Interview Questions

Some common interview questions asked during the EIB recruitment process:

  • Tell me about a time when you demonstrated too much initiative.
  • How has your education prepared you for your career?
  • Give me an example of how you keep track of details while engaging in conversation.
  • What signs of trust have you demonstrated in the past while working?

Prepare a few questions of your own to ask at the end of the interview. Doing so demonstrates a high level of interest in the job, and shows a general initiative.

This may also present a chance to provide more information about yourself that you feel will impress the interviewer, but which did not come up in the interview itself.

Try to relax—the interview begins the moment you step into the building. Preparation beforehand is proven to boost your confidence and give your application its greatest chance of success.
