Samworth Brothers Hiring Process

The hiring process can take 5 weeks and will consist of three face-to-face interviews and a number of tests. Some tests are general, while others are specific to the job you are applying for. The general required skills, as advertised by the company, are as follows:

  • Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Organizational skills including the ability to prioritize workload

 

Samworth Brothers Interview Process

The complexity and the duration of the interviews at Samworth Brothers depend very much on the job you are applying for. You will be asked to participate in two or more of the following interviews:

  • An initial phone interview. A phone interview, which will be conducted via phone and can take between 15-30 minutes. You will go over your resume and be asked questions regarding your salary expectations, work history, availability etc. If you successfully pass this interview, you will be either invited to participate in a video interview or an initial face to face interview.
  • You may be required to participate in video interviews. There are two types of video interviews, a live one, and a pre-recorded one. A live video interview involves using Skype, or a similar program. It’s as simple as that. It can take 40-60 minutes to complete. A pre-recorded interview is where are given a set of questions which you have to answer while recording yourself. You then send this video to the interviewers.
  • A number of in-person interviews. Face-to-face (or in-person) interviews. During the face-to-face interviews, you will be interviewed by multiple people. These will include the HR, the head of the department and your direct superior.
  • You may be required to participate in case interviews. Case interviews begin by interviewers posing a question, a challenge, or a situation that candidates are expected to solve. In this scenario, candidates are given background information and are then expected to ask interviewers questions that will help them either understand the issue (by collecting more information) or solve the problem. The interviewers will be looking at how well you suggest implementing your proposals.

 

The Tests at Samworth Brothers

All candidates will have to pass one or more tests at the Samworth Brothers premises to assess the proficiency of specific skills. The Thomas GIA test is used regularly by The Samworth Brothers company. The GIA is an online test that consists of five different sections and it takes 50 minutes to complete:

  • Reasoning - This section measures your ability to make inferences and draw logical conclusions. You are given a statement describing the relationship between two individuals. You then need to answer a question that refers to this statement.
  • Perceptual Speed - You are presented with pairs of uppercase and lowercase letters. Your task is to identify the number of pairs in which both letters are the same as quickly as possible.
  • Number Speed and Accuracy - Each question includes a set of three numbers. You need to pick the number which is furthest away from the middle number out of the three.
  • Spatial Visualization - This is a mental-rotation test. In each question, there are two pairs of images rotated a different amount of degrees. You need to identify the pairs in which both images are the same (and not mirrored).
  • Word Meaning - This is a verbal odd-one-out test. In each question, there are three words, two of which are similar in some way. Your task is to identify the third, unrelated word.

 

Traditional Interview Questions

Some of the common interview questions that you may come across during your hiring process at Samworth Brothers include:

  • Based on your knowledge of the role, what do you think the most important quality of a manager should be?
  • When was the last time you were angry? What happened?
  • Describe a difficult work situation/project and how you overcame it.
