Proctor and Gamble, or P&G as they're known are the largest consumer packaged goods company in the world. Employing more than 100,000 people across the globe, and with a huge array of products, they are a great place to work.

Work with the P&G internship can be with one brand or in one discipline depending on the type of job you are applying to.

There are a number of different exercises that you will have to go through in the Procter and Gamble application process at all levels, not just the P&G internship. The one thing you will not experience is a Procter and Gamble assessment centre, as they are not currently used in the recruitment process.

Procter and Gamble Online Application Form

This is a fairly basic online application form where you will be given a chance to upload your CV as well as your other personal information. You are also given a chance to upload any other job related documentation. Use this opportunity to make sure that your application stands out from the crowd. Ensure that the CV you upload is accurate, tailored to Procter and Gamble and puts you forward in the best way. Use our CV builder to help you make this happen. If you are successful in your application you will move onto the next stage of the application process; the Procter and Gamble reasoning tests.

P&G Success Drivers Assessment

This is the first Procter and Gamble assessment test that you will receive online and will take about 30 minutes to complete. It is used to assess your background as well as work related activities measuring you against the P&G competencies. These competencies will be assessed throughout the application process so it is necessary to keep them in mind when answering any question. They are:

  • P&G Minds
  • P&G People
  • P&G Agility

If you are successful in this stage of the application, you will be asked to participate in the next stage of the application process; the P&G reasoning tests.

P&G Reasoning Tests

The P&G aptitude test includes questions in the fields of numerical reasoning, verbal logic-based reasoning, and abstract (figural) reasoning. You will be presented with a multiple choice question format and a variety of word maths problems, short reading passages followed by reading comprehension questions, and other non-verbal, abstract reasoning questions. The test contains 15 questions in total with 2.30 minutes allowed for each question.

P&G Numerical Reasoning Test

In the Procter and Gamble numerical test you are given a series of word problems where you are asked to calculate distance, area, weight and percentages. You are asked to extract the relevant information from the data in order to choose the correct answer from a list of five options. Some calculations may be needed to help you identify the answer. By practicing with our numerical reasoning tests, you review numerical functions and practice extracting data to prepare yourself adequately.

P&G Logic Based Reasoning Test

In this P&G logical reasoning test are assessed on your ability to think in a logical manner. You will be given a paragraph of text from which you need to draw a valid conclusion. The information for your answers must come from the text only, no outside knowledge is allowed. You have to make the right conclusion based on the information given, and choose the right answer from a list of options. Find more information about verbal reasoning tests on our website.

P&G Figural Reasoning Test

The final test in the P&G reasoning test is the figural or abstract reasoning test. In this test you are given a series of different shapes in either a line or in a 3 by 3 matrix. There will be one shape missing and it is your job to find the missing one from the options below. Learn more about abstract reasoning tests and gain tips for getting a good score.

The Procter and Gamble online assessment test is challenging and different to the types of test you are used to. Without practice, you will struggle to achieve a high score in the test. The reason for this is because of the severe time constraints you will be put under when answering these questions. Therefore, it isn't just a good idea to get practise for these tests but a necessity.

We have prepared our own P&G style reasoning test practice pack to enable you to prepare for this test.

If you progress to the next stage of the recruitment process, you may be asked to take a paper based version of the Procter and Gamble reasoning test at one of P&G’s offices. This test is aimed at verifying your results from the online reasoning test. These tests are longer and more complicated so make sure you are fully prepared. Once you have come through these, you will have a number of different interviews.

P&G Interviews

The next stage involves two or three Procter and Gamble interviews. The initial interview will be a P&G phone interview which will mainly be competency based. This means making sure you know these competencies inside out so that you can incorporate them into your answers. You must also incorporate examples of where you have demonstrated these competencies in the past. Prepare these examples ahead of the interview, using the STAR method (situation, task, action, result) to organise your answers and ensure you include everything you need.

Some example P&G phone interview questions include:

  • Tell me about a time where you had a deadline and couldn't meet it. How did you deal with this?
  • Tell me about a time when you took the initiative and how did you do it?
  • Tell me about a time when you had to think of an innovative solution to a difficult problem?

For these questions, it is recommended that you use the STAR method to answer. This is because this method utilises a number of different qualities and you can use it to show yourself in the best possible light.

The second Procter and Gamble interview will take place at one of their offices and is more skills based. You will be asked questions on your qualifications as well as everything else on your CV. Review the information on your CV, and prepare a new set of examples highlighting your skills for this interview. For more information on how to conduct yourself in these interviews, see our interview preparation pack.

The best way to cap off any interview preparation is to pull together all your work in a mock interview. A mock interview allows you to rehearse your answers and identify any weaknesses in your preparation to work on ahead of the real interview. Our Skype based interviews offer experienced assessors who are able to test you and then offer feedback on where to work on next.
