Preparing for The Hiring Process at Petrobras

If you decide to go through the hiring process at Petrobras, you should know that it could take 5 weeks. During these weeks, you will go through a number of interviews and a number of tests that will assess your skills. Some are very specific to the job you will be applying for, while others are general and include:

Petrobras Interview Stages

Candidates will be required to go through several interviews. The types of interviews vary between candidates. The reasons for this are primarily the type of job the candidate is applying for and the location of the interview. Candidates should expect the following interviews:

  • Phone interviews. During a phone interview, candidates will usually be interview by a recruiter. The candidate will be asked a number of basic questions about the readiness to work, the salary requirements, experience, some clarifying questions about the resume etc. If the interview is successful, the candidate will be asked to come in for a face-to-face interview on company premises.
  • You may be required to participate in video interviews. There are two types of video interviews, a live one, and a pre-recorded one. A live video interview or a Skype interview are done digitally, from the comfort of your home, and although they are seemingly easier than in-person interviews, they can be quite tricky and require practice as there are unique aspects to consider and keep in mind. These usually last up to an hour. A pre-recorded interview is where are given a set of questions which you have to answer while recording yourself. You then send this video to the interviewers.
  • Several levels of in-person interviews. If the phone interview was successful, you will be invited to a series of face-to-face (or in-person) interviews. These will be done with multiple people like the HR representative, your direct superior and the hiring manager.
  • Group interviews. Group interviews vary from company to company. The general idea is to interview multiple people (sometimes 10, sometimes 40) simultaneously. There are several interviewers and each of them asks several questions. Sometimes groups of candidates will have to participate in an activity together, like a presentation. 

 

Tests Conducted by Petrobras

Petrobras requires all candidates to pass several of the following tests. The exact tests depend on what job you’ve applied for:

 

  • A numerical reasoning test. A numerical reasoning test is an area which requires you to not only understand numerical information but also to make decisions and conclusions based on that information.
  • English tests. These tests aim to assess both written and spoken English. They are covering a number of topics such as Vocabulary, Grammar, Spelling and more.
  • An abstract reasoning test. An abstract reasoning, or figural reasoning, test is used to assess the candidate’s ability to critically evaluate the problem. In these questions, you will be given a pair of shapes which introduce a certain relationship. You must then choose the missing shape that would complete the new pair of shapes that display the same relationship.
  • A personality test. The purpose of this test is to assess the match between your personal profile and the required job profile, and thus to screen out candidates whose personality profiles are incompatible with that of the position being filled. While the job interview examines your overt behaviour, the personality test aims to reach deeper and expose those areas you might not be aware of, thereby providing recruiters with a more comprehensive profile of your personality.
