The Oliver Wyman Numerical Reasoning Test

It is very important to be aware that the Oliver Wyman numerical reasoning test in particular, is known to be very challenging. The Oliver Wyman Numerical Test also includes negative marking, meaning you lose points (-1 point) for incorrect answers; however you are permitted to skip questions. In addition to the actual difficulty of the questions, there are 30 questions to complete in 20 minutes meaning that you have less than a minute to answer each question. Along with the negative marking that is incorporated in these online tests, these are considered some of the hardest tests in the application world.

The Oliver Wyman Verbal Reasoning Test

In the Oliver Wyman Verbal test you will be presented with a paragraphs of information. You will then be asked multiple-choice questions relating to these paragraphs.

Oliver Wyman Interview Stage

The Oliver Wyman Interview stage of the application process can be long and stressful, but here at JobTestPrep, we can make sure you are properly prepared. For Oliver Wyman, the interview stage is usually the most important and it usually consists of two separate interviews.

Oliver Wyman Conversational Interview

The first round, depending on various circumstances, such as geographic location, could either be in the form of a telephone interview or a face-to-face interview. It is likely to be between 30 - 45 minutes long. Sometimes this round could also consist of more than one interview. With regards to the Oliver Wyman conversational interview, you will be asked questions about your accomplishments, experiences, and interests. It is as it says a conversation. This means that you are expected to speak in this way. Find out how JobTestPrep can help you gain insight on some Oliver Wyman interview questions and answers with a mock interview.

In the Oliver Wyman Case Study Interview

The Oliver Wyman case study interview is one of the key parts of the Oliver Wyman interview stage. As consultants within Oliver Wyman are frequently required to analyse complex, ambiguous problems and then develop a solution, the case study interview is designed to simulate this element. It allows the interviewer to:

  • Introduce you to the work that consultants do on a daily basis.
  • Allow the interviewer to understand how you think.
  • Determine your levels of analytical skills and methods of working out a solution to the problem. The interviewer is looking for intellectual curiosity, strong analytical and interpersonal skills.

They want to see if you can think “outside the box”. Often, for these case study questions, they are checking to see if you can apply common sense to business problems. In addition to the above, it is important to realise that analytical reasoning is an integral part of solving the problem. Furthermore, while all this is being tested, additional qualities are being assessed, including:

  • Presentation skills
  • Professionalism
  • Presence
  • Credibility
  • Communication skills

The Oliver Wyman Case Study Structure

The case study interview structure will usually consist of the interviewer posing a short, business-related scenario to you. The objective is to talk through the main issues in a structured manner as you work your way to the final answer. During this process the interviewer will present you with additional data, including charts and various diagrams. This information will also need to be analysed and used in the answer.

It is also possible that the interviewer may pose a scenario that is NOT directly business-related, for example: “Estimate the GDP of the world between 1 AD and 2010 AD” As with the more business-related scenario, it is important to structure your thinking and apply relevant business concepts.

It's important to note that the case study interview scenario needs to be considered to be a conversation, not a test. Think of the interview as a problem-solving dialogue with the interviewer.

The key is to demonstrate an understanding of the key issues, taking into account all the data and calculations to form a route to the final recommendation. If you feel you are getting stuck, you should ask…the interviewer is not trying to catch you out and there could be more than one answer to the scenario. Asking the right questions is a key part of the process. Oliver Wyman will usually give you feedback fairly quickly.
