JobTestPrep – the real Authority of job application tests
The hiring process takes 4 weeks, during which you will be asked to show your technical and your people skills. To assess your skills, Komatsu will require you to take certain tests and participate in several interviews. If you look closely at the requirements on their job applications, apart from very specific skills, there are general skills that are required from everybody. These skills include:
Ability to follow directions of Supervisory staff
Excellent communication and presentation skills required
Strong planning, prioritization, and origination skills
The Interviews at Komatsu
You will have to participate in at least two of the following interviews when applying for a job at Komatsu:
Phone interviews. A phone interview, which will be conducted via phone and can take between 15-30 minutes. You will go over your resume and be asked questions regarding your salary expectations, work history, availability etc. If you successfully pass this interview, you will be either invited to participate in a video interview or an initial face to face interview.
A video interview. Video interviews are divided into two types live and pre-recorded. A live video interview or a Skype interview are done digitally, from the comfort of your home, and although they are seemingly easier than in-person interviews, they can be quite tricky and require practice as there are unique aspects to consider and keep in mind. These usually last up to an hour. A pre-recorded video interview involves employers sending you a link to an interview platform which contains pre-determined interview questions. Here, you will have a chance to briefly view the question before you record and submit your answer.
Several in-person interviews. These could be with 5-8 people and last 2 hours or more. You will be interviewed by HR, a hiring manager, your direct superior and other people who will evaluate your specific skill requirements.
You may be required to participate in case interviews. Some case interviews revolve around the estimation of a company’s profitability and investment opportunities. They present a business problem that requires solving. Here you will need to evaluate the potential and profitability of a certain market or a specific product. The interviewers will be looking at how well you suggest implementing your proposals.
You may be required to go through technical interviews. During a technical interview, it is not unusual for an interviewer to show a candidate a wiring diagram or a line of computer code and expect instant analysis in a technical interview. Candidates should bear in mind that interviewers are not just interested in technical knowledge (although this is very important) but also how candidates approach problems, construct their thought process, and demonstrate personal skills, such as communication.
Komatsu’s Tests and Assessments
During the hiring process at Komatsu, you will be required to pass certain tests. What specific tests? It all depends on what you are applying for and they will include two or more of the following:
The Revelian Cognitive Ability Test. It is a 51-question, 20-minute exam that consists of three types of questions: verbal, numerical, and logical/abstract reasoning. The questions on the test increase in difficulty as the test taker progresses.
A numerical reasoning test. A numerical reasoning test includes a wide range of aptitude tests, varying from basic arithmetic tests and advanced numerical reasoning tests. On numerical reasoning tests, you are often given a chart with information on it, which you then have to solve.
An abstract reasoning test. An abstract reasoning, or figural reasoning, test is used to assess the candidate’s ability to critically evaluate the problem. In these questions, you will be given a pair of shapes which introduce a certain relationship. You must then choose the missing shape that would complete the new pair of shapes that display the same relationship.
