About JobTestPrep Debenhams PrepPack™

Our PrepPack™ was created based on our knowledge and experience. There are two main recruitment processes with Debenhams, the retail selection process and head office recruitment process.

The Debenhams graduate scheme, a collection of jobs across both areas designated for graduates also recruit according to these processes. Preparation is the key ingredient in your application process. Start practising with JobTestPrep to stand out of the pool of candidates.

Debenhams will assess you on your team working skills at each stage. They are looking for people who work together to deliver.

Debenhams Numerical Test

Many companies use numerical reasoning assessments to gain a better understanding of your abilities to perform mathematical functions and interpret numerical data.

JobTestPrep offers a variety of numerical reasoning practice tests with accompanying answer keys and explanations for many different job levels.

Debenhams Abstract Reasoning Online Assessment

The abstract reasoning tests are also known as inductive or diagrammatic reasoning and assess general intellect rather than textbook knowledge.

When administering this test, Debenhams will be looking to see how you relate to new concepts and abstract ideas and can be used to assess a wide range of positions within the company.

So, be creative, quick and use your fluid intelligence to solve the issues you will be confronted with on the test.

Debenhams Verbal Reasoning Test

Verbal reasoning tests focus on drawing logical conclusions from verbal information. These tests automatically assume you understand the meanings of the words and phrases used in the text.

This later allows your future managers to better comprehend how you process written information to further determine how you will fit into their vacant position.

Debenhams Telephone Interview

Applicants to the retail selection process will next be invited to book in for a telephone interview. The interviewer will be asking you for more detail on the information in your CV.

You have an opportunity to ask questions about the company and the role you are applying for.

In order to prepare for the phone interview, there are several things you should do: Reread your application form and refresh your memory; Prepare examples from your past when you have used certain skills; Think of answers for questions such as those below; research the company and prepare to use that knowledge in your answers.

As well as this, practise your delivery to questions. A mock interview is the best way to really measure how well all the above preparation has come together before you have the final test.

With JobTestPrep’s interview preparation package you get a practice and personal feedback on how you have done, and where you need to improve.

Debenhams telephone interview questions include:

⦿ What do you think the job of stock movement assistant entails?
⦿ Why do you want to work for Debenhams?
⦿ What do you see as being good customer service?
⦿ What qualities can you bring to the store?
⦿ Do you have any relevant experience?
⦿ Give an example where you have to plan and achieve goals.
⦿ Give an example where you have to integrate with your team members.
⦿ What is customer service?
⦿ What was your previous job and what did you learn from it?

Debenhams Interview

In any recruitment with Debenhams, you will have some sort of face to face interview. For applicants to Head Office, this will generally follow on from the application form, for applicants to the retail track, the interview could be stand-alone, or it could be part of a recruitment event day or even a second interview after the recruitment event.

The Debenhams interview generally takes place at the store or head office you have applied to. The questions in the face to face interview are similar to the ones in the telephone interview, but could also include more.

Preparation is key for this Debenhams interview and is the first chance you have to meet some of the team you may work with in the future.

Prepare to be better than at your last interview, including the telephone interview. The recruiters want to know about your career aspirations, and what you have done until now to achieve these aspirations. Prepare answers to questions and illustrate them with examples.

For those of you who have not yet had an interview with Debenhams, preparation is the same, but you may want to take part in a mock interview which will enable you to pull together all of your preparation in one go.

JobTestPrep’s Skype-based interviews are carried out by a trained assessor who can give you feedback on the best way to approach your Debenhams interview when it comes up.

Debenhams interview questions include:

  • Tell me about yourself?
  • What are your weaknesses?
  • What have you done to improve customer service in your store?
  • What motivates you?
  • Name a time when team building was essential in something you have done.
  • What Debenhams brand would you be and why?
  • What could you personally bring to the company?

Debenhams Recruitment Event

Applicants for a retail position who are still progressing through the process will usually be invited to a recruitment event.

The recruitment event is usually held at the store you have applied to, and involves a series of practical activities designed to assess whether you have the skills or competencies needed for the role you have applied to.

Activities at a Debenhams recruitment event include:

  • Team working activities such as working with a team to produce a poster setting out the services Debenhams provide, their competitors and advantages; or team games such as finding a word for each letter in “customer service”.
  • One to one discussions with another member of the group, for example about the company, or matching brands with their corresponding customer profiles.
  • Customer service activity - going down to the shop floor and either selling products to customers or asking them questions about their preferences.
  • Role-playing activities such as selling your favourite product to an assessor or the rest of the group.

You are not just being assessed on the outcomes of your activities, but on how you stand out in the team, how you work with the others in the group, listen to them and make valuable contributions.

The recruitment event will test you on a number of skills. Preparation is key to ensuring that you have a plan for the day and that you don’t get nervous.

Some of the things to prepare are ways to address case studies, approaching group exercises, and giving presentations. Follow the links to see how JobTestPrep can help you with each.

Debenhams Assessment Centre

Applicants to Head Office will be invited to an assessment centre as part of their recruitment journey.

The activities you are likely to face depending on the job you are applying to, but they could include the following:

For example on a retailer who impresses you, with questions at the end from the people you presented to. Prepare for giving presentations with JobTestPrep’s blog on presentations.

For some roles, the assessment centre will include an interview. See above for more information on Debenham’s interviews.

Aptitude tests

For some positions, you will be asked to take an aptitude test. The most common test you are likely to come up against is the numerical reasoning test, but you may also be expected to sit a verbal reasoning test, situational judgement test or other.

You will be told in advance what test to expect, so practise ahead of time with JobTestPrep’s dedicated preparation packs.

Why Does Debenhams Use Pre-Hire Aptitude Tests?

Most companies administer some sort of pre-employment aptitude tests, and Debenhams is no exception.

These tests were designed in order to give your interviewers insight into a number of workplace competencies.

These tests are often scored by taking your raw score and comparing it to that of other the candidates, then comparing all scores to the benchmark score.

If your profile happens to be a match with the company’s standards, you may end up being offered the job.

What Is Debenhams Looking for in the Results of My Numerical Test?

Pre-hire math tests help your employer evaluate and assess your ability to efficiently and effectively analyse numerical data.

These tests will give insight on your ability to use data in order to solve business-related problems.

What Is a Panel Interview?

A Panel Interview is a type of face-to-face interview. Unlike a regular in-person interview, where you will speak to a Human Resources representative and your prospective manager, on the panel interview, you will have a conversation with four or six people simultaneously.

The people to whom you talk on the panel interview most probably will be a Human Resources manager, team leaders, and managers of several departments where you can work, if employed. Questions asked on the panel interview are mostly competency based.

You will need to tell them about your education and working experience. To answer situational questions well, think about the situation that presented challenges in your former workplace and that you resolved by making a smart decision.

The company’s recruiters will want to know why you arrived at this specific decision and why you did not pursue available alternatives.

They may also want to walk you through your résumé and ask you questions about the companies for which you worked in the past.

In return, recruiters will tell you about the company’s business goals and structure. The panel interview may take up to two hours.
