About Chevron

Chevron is one of the world's leading integrated energy companies, with over 45 years of experience across a wide range of products. Although an energy company, Chevron is also interested in the environment and the sustainability of the world’s resources.

The company has three major entry paths: internships, graduate schemes, and experienced hires. This article outlines the hiring process for the Chevron Australia’s graduate scheme but includes stages common to all.

Chevron Online Application

The first stage of any application is the online application form. This form includes the opportunity to upload your CV as well as answer some competency questions if you are applying for the Chevron graduate program. These questions should be viewed as an opportunity to show Chevron that you are the best possible candidate for the position you are applying for. This is done by showing that you possess the key values of the company and use them in a productive fashion.

Chevron Key Values

  • Diversity
  • Integrity
  • Partnership
  • Ingenuity
  • Trust
  • High performance
  • Protecting people and the environment

Incorporating these key values into your answers and CV is your way of ensuring that you are showing your best side to Chevron.

Chevron Aptitude Test

The next stage of the Chevron Australia recruitment process is the aptitude test. Chevron uses the Revelian cognitive ability test (formerly Onetest), an Australian-based psychometric testing company. On this test you are presented with a wide variety of different questions, including questions on both picture and word logic as well as some mathematical and verbal reasoning questions. The Chevron aptitude test has 51 questions with a time limit of 20 minutes. This test format is different from other aptitude tests in that the difficulty of the questions increases throughout the test. Practising for this test is particularly important due to the fast pace of the test and the different styles of questions that you can face. You can prepare for your test with our Revelian cognitive ability test practice pack.

Chevron Assessment Centre

If you have done well enough in the previous stages of the Chevron recruitment process, you will be invited to attend the Chevron assessment centre. There are a number of different assessment centres depending on the particular position you have applied for. However, each of them follows the same basic outline that includes verification of the aptitude test, a group exercise and an interview.

Verification of Chevron Aptitude Test

In first stage of the Chevron assessment day you are asked to retake the aptitude test you previously took. This is done in order to verify the score you have received. You may want to brush up on your skills before completing the verification stage to ensure you do as well or better than the first time.

Chevron Group Exercise

Along with the other candidates, you are given a brief pertinent to your job application. The brief normally contains lots of facts and figures and you have to use this information in order to come up with a solution to a problem that is explained in the brief. In order to complete this activity in the best possible way you need to show Chevron that you possess all the key values listed above. Find out how we can help you with your group activity with our online practice.

Chevron Interview

The Chevron interview at the assessment centre is a 3-1 interview where you face three assessors for an interview that can be up to an hour and a half long. This interview is split, with questions relating to your qualifications and skills as well as others which relate to your qualifications. As this is a long, detailed interview, it is perfectly acceptable to bring some notes in with you. Moreover, you are allowed and even encouraged to take your time to answer in a succinct way. The best way to prepare for the Chevron interview is to practise answering interview questions.

Chevron Interview Questions

There are many different questions that you can face but some of the most popular Chevron interview questions are listed below:

  • Tell me about a time when you worked on an engineering team.
  • Tell me about a time when you had to resolve a conflict.
  • What is your greatest weakness?
  • Tell me about a time when you had to multitask.
  • Have you ever led a team? Tell me about what you did and how you did it.
  • Give me an example of a safety concern that you have had to deal with. What did you do?
  • Please walk me through your CV.

In order to answer the questions in the correct manner you need to incorporate the key values of the company in your answers.

After you have completed the above stages of the Chevron recruitment process successfully you have to complete a medical. Come through this successfully and you will be offered a place.
