Associated British Foods Online Tests

Whether you are applying to an ABF position or to the company's graduate scheme, during the recruitment process, you are required to complete numerical and verbal reasoning tests provided by CEB SHL. Associated British Foods CEB SHL-Style Numerical Test

Associated British Foods CEB SHL-Style Verbal Test

For the CEB SHL Occupational Personality Questionnaire, you will be measured according to 32 different personality traits based on your answers to multiple choice questions. How to Successfully Pass Your CEB SHL Tests

The CEB SHL assessment score is comparative, and scores are distributed along a bell curve. Only those candidates who score in the highest percentile of the curve will move on to the next stage of the recruitment process.

 

It is important that you do your best to prepare for the test because failing to achieve a high assessment score will hurt your chances of getting the job you want. Your score is relative, and determined in comparison to a group of people with similar educational backgrounds. Prepare for ABF Interviews

The non-graduate interview process consists of two interviews. The first is a pre-recorded video interview in which you will read four competency-based questions and take a few minutes to record yourself answering them. Before you start, you will also receive a video including interview tips and tricks and a chance to answer a practice video question. To prepare for the interview, think of examples from past professional or academic experiences in which you displayed competencies such as teamwork, decision-making, and leadership. Examples of past competency questions include the following:

  • Describe a time when you showed leadership.
  • Describe a time when you worked in a team.
  • Describe a time when you overcame a problem.
  • Describe a time when you failed or succeeded.

Approach the video interview as you would a face-to-face interview by showing your personality, displaying confidence, maintaining eye contact, and keeping a relaxed demeanour.

After the video interview, successful candidates will move on to a telephone interview. You should prepare to discuss which skills you can bring to ABF, why you chose your desired role in the company, and what difficulties you think you will face while working there. To best prepare, be sure to demonstrate extensive knowledge of your ideal role and of the company itself. Make clear to your interviewer why ABF stands out to you and how your competencies and behaviours fit your desired function.

It is important to draw from your degree, work experience, and extracurricular activities to back up your competencies and explain why they are relevant to ABF. Make sure to showcase your leadership experience and your ability to communicate with different types of people. ABF is looking for future leaders in its candidates.

The ABF Graduate Scheme Process

ABF's graduate recruitment process hires 25 graduates to one of the company's seven businesses comprising ABF Grocery Group: Silver Spoon, Speedibake, Twinings, AB World Foods, Westmill, Jordans, Dorset & Ryvita, and Allied Bakeries. Candidates apply to roles within the graduate schemes of Customer Development, Marketing, HR, Engineering, Procurement, Technical, and Supply Chain & Operations.

The recruitment process consists of a set of online aptitude tests reviewed above, followed by a video interview, telephone interview, and an assessment centre.

ABF sees its graduate scheme as the first step of a graduate's ongoing career within the company. Therefore, the process is highly selective and demanding, with few open spots each year. Interview Preparation Pack

Prepare for the ABF Graduate Schemes Assessment Centre 

Graduate candidates who qualify for the final stage will be invited to participate in an assessment centre, usually held at one of ABF's UK sites. Before the centre begins, candidates from all of the graduate schemes are invited to dinner with the assessors and current ABF graduates. The purpose of the dinner is to allow candidates to learn more about working at ABF in an informal environment. Take this chance to ask current graduates about projects they have worked on and about their experience at the company.

Engineering and Supply Chain candidates will be invited to a tour of an ABF factory in the afternoon the day before the assessment centre. The tour is a great opportunity to ask specific questions related to ABF and to show your eagerness to learn about the company. 

The assessment centre consists of group exercises, situational judgment scenarios, individual competency-based interviews, and a presentation. Remember to keep ABF's competencies in mind while you participate in each activity, making sure to show your skills in each area. For example, you could showcase your teamwork skills by assigning roles in a group activity and working with each group member to drive the team forward.

ABF is eager to recruit candidates who will serve as future company leaders, so demonstrate your leadership skills accordingly. In group activities, find ways to work with your peers in a way that will drive the team forward. In individual interviews, come prepared with your STAR-based competency answers about your leadership skills, involving challenges you faced in the past and how you surmounted them.

Before you participate in the assessment centre, ensure that you are able to express your reasons for wanting to work at the company, your ideal role, and what career path you see yourself pursuing within the company.
