MCAT UK The MCAT is an American admission test. However, UK residents who wish to apply to American medical schools can register to the MCAT. The MCAT UK test dates appear at the AAMC website.
The MCAT covers different fields of material compared to British medical admission tests as the UKCAT and BMAT. UK residents who wish to study medicine in the U.S. are required to complete at least two years of undergraduate studies in a U.S. academic institute.
MCAT Format The MCAT is a test which consists of 4 sections, in the following order of appearance:
Physical Sciences 70 minutes, 52 multiple choice questions. The physical sciences section focuses on introductory level physics and chemistry. It contains seven to nine passages that include 39 questions, and 13 additional multiple choice questions that do not relate to any passage.
Verbal Reasoning 60 minutes, 40 multiple choice questions. This verbal reasoning section assesses the applicant's capacity to understand, evaluate and apply information given in a passage. This section does not assess knowledge in disciplines covered on other sections of the test. There are seven passages, each about 600 words long, followed by 5 to 7 multiple choice questions.
Writing Sample 60 minutes, 2 essays. The writing sample section consists of two 30-minute essays. The essays should be written as responses to a given topic or statement. The subjects presented here do not evaluate scientific knowledge, and they are intended to be culturally and socially neutral.
Biological Sciences 70 minutes, 52 multiple choice questions. The biological sciences section focuses on biology and organic chemistry. The section consists of 7 passages, including 39 questions and 13 additional multiple choice questions that do not relate to any specific passage.
