Job Interview Prep Assessment Centre Prep
Psychometric tests used in assessment centres and recruitment processes are lengthy and probably the most complex battery of psychometric tests used in the market. Psychometric tests used to sift job applicants usually include a series of unfamiliar and challenging aptitude and personality tests that raise tension and stress levels in most applicants.
If you have ever been to an assessment centre you are well aware that at the end of the day you most probably were exhausted regardless of the results. In effect, one of the main purposes of an assessment centre is to examine the applicant's behaviour in a stressful and tiring situation such as having to do a series of psychometric tests. Your behaviour during the course of the day is noted and is important just as much as the test results, if not more! Many applicants may experience feelings of frustration and anger when filling in the personality questionnaires or doing an aptitude test. They feel exposed and that their pricvacy has been compromised. One of the most important rules to remember is to maintain a serious and concrete attitude during the course of the day.
The test battery differs from one assessment centre to the other, however most include two sections:
- a behavioural psychological section which includes a face-to-face interview, a personality test or questionnaire (such SHL's OPQ32) and a group exercise (e.g. in tray exercise)
- a testing unit which includes a range of aptitude tests - verbal reasoning, numerical reasoning and abstract (diagrammatic) reasoning tests.
Preparing for your psychometric test will improve your results and strengthen your psychological state of mind, increasing your chances of success when applying for your desired job.
